Videos
Overview
Videos are the foundation for all content and functionality in Backstage. As the primary content type in the system, Video assets serve as the building blocks that power the viewer experience across all platforms. These assets can be organized into Playlists, featured on the homepage, and distributed through various pages.
Backstage allows you to upload, manage, and organize your video content with comprehensive metadata, custom thumbnails, and proper categorization to ensure viewers can easily discover and enjoy your content.
Video Presets
Presets are predefined templates with customized fields specific to different types of content. Each preset is designed to capture the relevant information for that particular content type, making organization and searchability more efficient.
Example Presets:
Movie: Includes fields for TV rating, release year, director, etc.
Episode: Used for individual episodes of a series or show
Trailer: Acts as a separate trailer asset for an asset or playlist
Selecting the appropriate preset ensures that you'll have all the necessary fields to properly categorize and describe your content, which enhances discoverability and the viewer experience.
Uploading an Asset
How to Upload a Video Asset
Ensure your videos are in the correct formats to be uploaded. Commonly uploaded videos formats include the following:
.3gp
.avi
.mov
.mp4
.wmv
From the Video homepage in Backstage, select the "Network" dropdown box and select your preferred network. Then, go to the "Videos" tab on the left side of your screen.
Once you're in this tab, press on the "New Media" dropdown button in the upper right hand corner of your screen. You'll see the available presets as a starting point for your asset.
Once you select a preset, you'll navigate to a screen where the asset can be uploaded and metadata can be entered.
In the "Upload Asset" section, click on the "Upload File" button and select the file you would like to upload.
While the asset uploads, fill out the title, description, and additional information sections as these contain required fields for uploading.
Thumbnails
Thumbnails are the visual representations of your content that appear throughout the application across different platforms. Different areas of your application require specific image formats and dimensions to display properly, with each image key corresponding to a specific feature or platform display requirement.
All videos require the default image key (1920x1080, 16x9) for standard thumbnail display. Additional image keys depend on where your content will be featured. For example, videos that will be featured on the homepage requires both
imgFeaturedTvBanner16×4for TV and web display andimgFlixMobileFeature6×9for mobile display to ensure proper display across all platforms.Refer to the Image Key Matrix below for complete specifications of all available image keys, their dimensions, and related features.
Tags function as the directors for videos. By adding tags you can categorize, organize, and send videos to specific playlists using the Dynamic Playlist feature. Here are some example tags to add to a video:
Network Tag: All assets need your unique network tag (e.g., "TBNFR" for French content)
SeriesId Tag: If the content belongs to a specific show or program, add the seriesId_ tag to make it appear in that Playlist
inActive Tag: Add this tag if you want to save without making the asset live on VOD
Set your scheduling dates:
Publish Date: By default, this is set to the current date and time. If you want the asset to go live at a future date, update this field accordingly
Expiration Date (optional): Set a future date when the asset should no longer be available to viewers
Once your asset is uploaded and you've completed the title, description, tags, scheduling, and graphics, press "Save & Publish" to make the asset Active. For an asset to be viewable by users, it must be both "Active" and "Published" (past the publish date). Alternatively, press "Save" to save your work without making it Active.
Bulk Edit
The Bulk Edit feature enables efficient management of multiple video assets simultaneously, allowing you to update tags or delete content across up to 100 assets at once. This powerful tool streamlines workflow when you need to make consistent changes across multiple pieces of content.
IMPORTANT: Once a bulk edit operation begins, it cannot be stopped and must complete before you can make changes to any other asset metadata. Monitor the progress bar at the top of the page to track the operation status.
How to Use Bulk Edit

Bulk Edit Completed (Green): The operation finished successfully and all changes have been applied.
Bulk Edit Failed (Red): The operation encountered an error and was unable to complete. Contact support if this issue persists.
